Scholarships: Take Advantage of Them

The good news about being a Grizzly is that Grizzlies help each other. And we’re humbled by the amount of support from alumni, donors and partners who are committed to helping Grizzlies make their way through college. If you don’t think there is a scholarship for you, think again.

Automatic Scholarship Consideration

Great news for new students pursuing their first bachelor's degree: Your application for admission to UM also serves as your application for the UM Academic Achievement Scholarship and the Western Undergraduate Exchange program. 

TUITION DISCOUNT

Western Undergraduate Exchange

Students with a 3.0+ GPA who live in WUE-eligible states are automatically considered for the Western Undergraduate Exchange tuition award if they apply by Jan. 15, 2026.

Incoming freshmen who apply after Jan. 15 may be considered for the WUE tuition discount on a case-by-case basis, pending availability. A current high school transcript is required for consideration.

Davidson Honors College Scholarships

Our premier academic scholarships are offered through the Davidson Honors College, and include the Presidential Leadership Scholarship, Provost’s Honors Scholarship, and the Dean’s Leadership Scholarship.

Affordable for All

If you’re an in-state resident from a family with an income of $50,000 or less, UM is dedicated to making sure your tuition is covered so you can attend tuition-free.

Scholarships Opportunities Abound

UM uses Scholarship Universe to help students find, apply for and accept scholarship opportunities across campus. Follow the steps and deadlines below each year to maximize your scholarship opportunities.

 

Payne Family Impact Scholarship

A $7.5 million scholarship fund, this scholarship is designed for students with a lot of need who aren’t able to get Federal Pell Grant eligibility.

Athletic Scholarships

For Grizzlies with an athletic side, UM offers athletic scholarships and degree-completion scholarships — totaling more than $4.2 million for over 300 student-athletes.

National Merit Scholarship

UM participates in the National Merit Scholarship Program and offers awards of $2,000 a year to finalists who have indicated UM as their first choice for attending college. Semi-finalists who enroll at UM receive an award of $1,000 a year.

Grizzly Battalion ROTC

The University of Montana participates in the Army ROTC Scholarship program. To receive an application for a four-year scholarship, contact your high school guidance office. Applications for two and three-year scholarship are available directly from the UM ROTC department.

Horatio Alger Scholarships

The Horatio Alger Montana Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to eligible high school seniors in the state of Montana who aspire to pursue higher education at the University of Montana. For detailed information, visit the Dennis and Phyllis Washington Foundation website.
